Richmond: New progressive majority puts ban on waterfront development

Argue that open space, parkland will bring city more value than industrial parks

But last week, the whole new progressive majority on the City Council voted to put a moratorium on any whole new development in the city’s Northshore area, a swath of land west of the parkway totaling around one hundred acres, saying manufacturing facilities and office parks have no place next to tidal marshes, especially in an era of rising sea levels.

Vinay Pimplé, a former councilman who lost a reelection bid last Nov commented the decision sends the wrong message to investors.

Abundant want to see the trend continue.
